The National Board of Directors has
collectively decided to cancel the 2006 National Convention
in Louisville, Kentucky. Although this was not an easy
decision by any means, we feel it is in the best interests
of our fraternity at this time. Several factors have come
into play that have led us to this decision. First, low
registration numbers among non-National Council delegates
have indicated to us that there is not sufficient interest
in holding a prosperous convention in Louisville. Second,
due to insufficient interest, the National Fraternity is
likely to absorb a substantial financial loss to carry on
with the National Convention, and damages can be minimized
now by cancelling our contracts in Louisville. Third, we
feel that there are important items of business and protocol
to be discussed at the meeting of the National Council, and
focusing our energies on preparing for that meeting should
be our top priority.
Due to
elections and the importance of business before the National
Council, a Council meeting will still take place Saturday,
August 5th, in St. Louis. The meeting will start
promptly at 8:00am and end once we are done with all the
items on the agenda. We do not anticipate this meeting
lasting more than a day. Within the next week, we will be
sending the following items to National Council delegates: a
slate of nominations for the National Board of Directors,
information about the business that has been placed on the
agenda for the National Council meeting, and logistical
information about the meeting itself. To make the meeting
go smoothly, we strongly encourage delegates to thoroughly
read the materials and come prepared to discuss the items.
We feel that our Fraternity can be most successful with the
most active participation and involvement of National
Council delegates.
We
apologize for the abruptness of this announcement and any
inconvenience it causes, but we feel it is in the best
interests of Beta Sigma Psi to not continue on with the 2006
National Convention in its current form. For those members
who had registered for the 2006 National Convention, a 100%
return of all registration fees will be made.
It is
our hope that these unfortunate circumstances are not
indicative of the future of our fraternity and instead will
allow all of us to plan and prepare for more prosperous
fraternity programming in the years to come. May God bless
our Fraternity.
